The IDM Film Commission Südtirol is funding a total of eight projects in its second funding call of 2024, consisting of seven projects from Italy – three of which are from South Tyrol – and one from Germany. The five feature films, one documentary and two short films will receive funding for production and pre-production. 66 days of shooting are planned to take place in South Tyrol.

Three projects will receive production funding: LA CORDA, the last instalment of the science fiction Trilogy on Man by director Alberto Fasulo and produced by Nefertiti Film (Italy) and Beauvoir Films (Switzerland), depicts the long, intoxicating dream of people living in a spaceship while earth is shrouded in fog. In the coming-of-age comedy CERCATORI D’ANGELI, produced by Settembre Produzioni (Italy) and Rough Cat (Switzerland), director Leopoldo Pescatore tells the story of the meeting between Bianca and her uncle Fausto. The documentary MYTHOS EMMA HELLENSTAINER by Wolfgang Moser and produced by his Bolzano/Bozen-based company mowo production and Terra Internationale Filmproduktionen from Austria focuses on one of the most famous women of 19th-century South Tyrol, who in the age of Emperor Franz Joseph had a huge influence on the development of tourism in the region.

Three further projects will receive pre-production funding: The murder mystery romcom MORD IN MERANO by director Lisa Maria Kerschbaumer and produced by Munich-based PSSST! Film tells the story of couple Alex and Kathi who find themselves stranded in a luxury villa in the Dolomites. When a body is discovered, the pair are caught up in the centre of the investigations. The coming-of-age drama ITACA by director Alessandro Grande and produced by Rome-based production company Disparte and Berlin-based Achtung Panda! explores the themes of identity and origin through the character of Sebastiano, who was kidnapped as a baby and meets his biological parents as a grown man. DUE A METÀ (aka FOLLOW ME), a comedy and family film by director Diego Cenetiempo and produced by Pilgrim Film from Trieste, tells the tale of Carlo, a drug runner who sets himself up with a fake family in an effort to appear more harmless.

Finally, two projects will receive short film funding from IDM: SOGNI E SEGNI: IL SENSO DELLA TERRA, a hybrid of live action and animation by Alessandro Ingaria and Simone Massi, focuses on marginalised and abused people. In NEW LIFE, produced by Bolzano/Bozen-based Albolina Film and stemming from an idea by its director Bernadette Weber, pregnant Anna has to make a difficult decision when she discovers that her unborn child is severely deformed.
