The 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival will be held from 7 to 17 August 2024. Joined by a delegation of filmmakers from South Tyrol, IDM Film Commission will attend the event from 8 August.
Golden leopards and film screenings under the night sky at Piazza Grande square in the old town of Locarno: this year marks the 77th edition of one of the oldest film festivals in the world. IDM Film Commission will attend the event from 8 August, joined by a delegation of filmmakers from South Tyrol: Producer Matthias Keitsch from Albolina Film in Bolzano brings along Ting, in which the main character, Marilì, runs away from an orphanage and becomes friends with Ting, a mysterious creature. Producer Martin Rattini, CEO of Bolzano-based Helios Sustainable Films, and director Nela Märki, co-president of the Film Association of South Tyrol, present their project Why the F*** am I so sad? at the festival. The film tells the story of a couple’s deep yet unfulfilled desire to have children, exploring the question as to how they can honour each other’s wishes without putting their love at risk.
Locarno is also the place to meet old acquaintances: Ithaca, a project by Alessandro Grande, produced by Disparte, which was supported by IDM during the last round of calls, is part of the Alliance4Development, a co-production initiative of filmmakers from Germany, France, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland.
Mother is a Natural Sinner by Boris Hadžija and Hoda Taheri, a short film initially presented at last year’s TSFM Summer Event in Schlanders, will be screened as part of the international “Pardi Di Domani” competition.
We can’t wait for the exciting festival days in Switzerland!
