The IDM Film Commission supports a total of ten projects for the third, and last, call of 2024. They include six feature films, two documentaries, one TV series, and a short film. Five of these projects are from Italy—with four from South Tyrol/Südtirol—, four from Germany, and one from Austria. Approximately 100 days of shooting for these projects are scheduled for South Tyrol.
Six projects will receive production funding: The feature film Eklipse, directed by Manuel Wetscher and written by him together with Bernhard Jarosch, tells the story of the friendship between two 12-year-old boys against the backdrop of the stigma associated with one of the boys’ father’s struggle with HIV/AIDS. Eutopia Film (Innsbruck) and Albolina Film (Bolzano/Bozen) produce. The High Fidelity Pictures production Das Haus am Gletscher, written by Jens Köster and directed by Stephan Rick, will be realised entirely in South Tyrol. In the film, a real estate deal spirals into a sinister psychological thriller. Shooting is scheduled for March 2025 and supposed to last 22 days. The six-part series Take the Money and Run by Berlin-based producer Pyjama Pictures tells the true story of the global hunt for crypto queen Ruja Ignatova, who disappeared with billions of spoils and has not been seen since. Writer and director Florian Aigner’s project Heile Familie is a family saga spanning three generations but told exclusively through a joint summer holiday at an Alpine hut. The feature film is produced by Sutor Kolonko e. K., Cologne, and KGP Filmproduktion from Vienna. Another project from Cologne is the feature film Paraphrase über den Fund eines Handschuhs, produced by Petrolio Film and scheduled for cinematic release, written and directed by Mareike Wegener: While on lockdown in Berlin, Cloe tries to write her first novel, but loneliness and isolation give her writer’s block. South Tyrolean film professionals Nela Märki and Martin Rattini, both alumni of the ZeLIG School for Documentary, Television and New Media in Bolzano, tell their own story in the documentary Why The F*** Am I So Sad?. After years of trying and failing to become pregnant, the couple must decide once and for all what to do with the remaining frozen embryos from the last IVF cycle. The documentary is produced by Bolzano-based Helios Sustainable Films and Beauvoir Films from Geneva.
Three projects will receive funding for pre-production activities: Michele Melani is planning the feature film Sanctuary, based on a treatment by Luca D’Andrea, about a woman, Marlene, on the run from her crime boss husband. It is produced by Formasette Srl from Bolzano. In her documentary project Voi come noi, Lilian Sassanelli investigates how the perception—both her own and that of generations of women—of feminine beauty was formed. The project was submitted by Matto Film Srl, Bolzano. The feature film project Segreti in cucina by Rosso Film, Milan, embarks on a cinematic journey into the depths of the soul, where the act of eating triggers dark memories and cooking turns into a struggle for the pursuit of happiness.
And finally, one project will receive short film funding: Maximilian Gurschler wrote and directed the short film Dormiveglia about 22-year-old Elia’s dream-like journey to his grandmother’s deathbed. The producer of this project is Langbein & Partner Media from Vienna.
