Second call of 2025: IDM Film Commission Südtirol supports ten projects

Reading time

Ten projects have been selected to receive funding from the IDM Film Fund & Commission as part of the second call of 2025: short films are well represented in this round, with a total of five projects receiving support. For the first time ever, two animation projects are among the selected productions. In addition, funding has been awarded for the production of two theatrical features and one documentary. Two feature film projects have secured funding for pre-production.

Three projects have been approved for support for production. In October, five days of shooting for Tania, an espionage thriller set in the German Democratic Republic and Cuba, are scheduled in South Tyrol/Südtirol. Starting in September, the filming of Wolf brings truly haunting mystery-horror to South Tyrol. Most of the story, which follows wild park owner Tilda as she hunts the wolves that put both her family and her animals at risk, ultimately transforming into one herself, is realised in South Tyrol. The film is directed by Nancy Camaldo, who also wrote the screenplay.

Schattenberge, a documentary, will also receive funding. The latest project of award-winning South Tyrolean documentary filmmaker Veronika Kaserer explores the first ascent by two alpinists of a 7,000-metre peak in northern Pakistan.

Two projects are being supported in pre-production: Me, You, and Gods (AT) is a biographical feature film debut by internationally acclaimed documentary director Francesca Scalisi, delving into grief as experienced by a truly extraordinary sibling duo. In König der Wölfe, South Tyrolean filmmaker Thomas Perathoner tells the story of a rebellious poacher who swaps his shotgun for a photo camera.

A total of five projects will receive short film funding, two of which are realised within the framework of MASO, the international short film training programme initiated by IDM in cooperation with the Bolzano Film Festival and supported by many international partners. The programme is dedicated to help young international filmmakers bring their short film ideas to life.

In October, Bolzano-based Albolina Film GmbH will begin filming Ciao, Ciao aus Tokio (AT), a short documentary film portraying Japan’s only South Tyrolean restaurant. The film is written and directed by South Tyrolean filmmaker Martin Telser. The animation I’m Not Nearly Cool Yet (AT), a project developed through MASO, transposes the Firebird, a Slavic folklore creature, to present-day Ukraine. A School Day (AT), another animated short film, will have half of its animation days – 26 out of a total of 52 – scheduled for South Tyrol. Written and directed by Roberto Romano, the film tells the story of a teacher who builds a close relationship with an autistic child. Director Martina Melilli’s documentary short film Questo Corpo, based on her original concept and treatment, presents Simona Pedicini, a thanoushee and funeral speaker who seeks to establish a connection to the deceased when preparing the ceremony. Another MASO project titled The Freezer tells the story of a deep freezer that disturbs the peace in a remote mountain village in Nepal.
