First 2023 call: IDM Südtirol – Alto Adige funds a total of 12 film projects

This year, a total funding volume of approx. 1.5 million euros will be put up to support the production of five feature films, four documentaries, two short films, and one series, all of which will visit South Tyrol/Südtirol for a combined total of 77 days of shooting. This eclectic selection includes a German production, nine productions from Italy including six projects from South Tyrol, and two productions from Austria.

Productions receiving funding include the tragicomedy MARIANENGRABEN by Eileen Byrne, produced by Albolina Film Bozen, the period piece VERMIGLIO O LA SPOSA DI MONTAGNA by South Tyrolean director Maura Delpero, and the thriller drama VERTIGINE NERA (DARK VERTIGO), directed by Giancarlo Soldi. That line-up is complemented by four documentaries: GRAND-POPO by Nuno Escudeiro, a documentary about the West African village of the same name, produced by Helios Sustainable Films, and UNDINE by Felix Rier, portraying the process of coping with sexual assault, made the selection, which is completed by LEBEN MIT BÄREN (AT) by Andreas Pichler as well as the STILFSERJOCHSTRAẞE – DOKUMENTATION, directed by Hans Hofer.

In addition, the documentary series ARTIST by Lorenz Klapfer, produced by TGM Media Group, RAMSES by Abu Bakr Shawky, produced by Schubert Füm, and IDDA by Irene Dionisio, produced by Kino Produzioni – which already received script development funding as part of the RACCONTI script lab –, will receive funding for their pre-production activities.

This year’s IDM short film funding is awarded to the German project WOLKENFABRIK by South Tyrolean director Hannes Lang, produced by Petrolio Film, Cologne, as well as UNA NOTTE, a short film by Alessio Vasarin, produced by Bolzano/Bozen-based Frabiatofilm.
