On 4 April, the 38th edition of the BFFB, the Bolzano Film Festival Bozen, opened its doors. As BFFB kicked off, MASO #1 came to a successful close. And MASO #2, the second edition of the short film training programme, has just launched. Applications are now open!

The 2025 BFFB programme features an impressive nine projects supported by the IDM Film Commission: Marianengraben by Eileen Byrne and My Boyfriend El Facista by Matthias Lintner as contenders in the competition; Personale by Carmen Trocker in the RealeNonReale category; and Happyland by Evi Romen, Aura by Stefania Accettulli, Choices & Changes by Miriam Muraca, Corte by Magdalena Mitterhofer, Moving Mountains by Andrea Costa as well as Nura by Lorenz Klapfer in the Local Heroes category. This year’s film festival awards once again include the IDM Film Commission Südtirol Award, honouring the best feature and the best short film from the Euregio region.

As part of BFFB, MASO #1, a short film training programme developed by IDM Südtirol, BFFB, and the three cultural offices of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen with the support of international partners, came to an end with one final workshop and a pitching event. At the same time, MASO #2, the next round of the successful initiative, was officially launched. Enrico Vannucci returns as creative advisor for the 2nd edition and will once again be responsible for the programme’s content: “We want to reach creative talents from all across the globe, especially from currently underrepresented communities, promote inclusive storytelling, and support the development of short films and short series that capture the industry’s attention.” Vincenzo Bugno, artistic director of BFFB, emphasises the significance of MASO: “MASO has become a well-established international platform dedicated to the world of short films. Through a focused and effective project development programme, it shines a spotlight on the creativity of countless emerging talents. It shows that South Tyrol is a place of opportunity for everyone who is passionate about film and film production.”
