Networking, cappuccino, and a premiere: From 17 to 22 February, the IDM Film Commission attended the 73rd edition of the Berlinale (16–26 February 2023) representing South Tyrol as a film location. A review.

 

The IDM Film Commission opened shop on Friday, 17 February, in the Italian Pavilion located in the European Film Market section in the Martin Gropius building. On Saturday, the traditional Cappuccino with the Italians event with film funds from all over Italy was held, and IDM met interested producers and filmmakers for consultations.

The South Tyrol Producer Delegation including Tobias Gruber, Debora Nischler, and Alessio Vasarin participated in this year’s Berlinale Visitors Programme, a networking event held within the framework of the Berlinale Co-Production Market (18–22 February) attended by approx. 100 producers from 20 countries seeking to explore the international market. In addition, the renowned newcomer programme Berlinale Talents featured South Tyrolean director Nancy Camaldo and filmmaker Nuno Escudeiro, a resident of South Tyrol.

On Monday, Do You Love Me? by Tonia Noyabrova, a production of Kyiv-based Family Production, celebrated its premiere at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele theatre. The Ukrainian feature film was awarded the “IDM Film Commission Südtirol & Cine Chromatix Italy Post-Production Price” as part of the UKRAINIAN FILMS NOW initiative. At Berlinale, the coming-of-age film was screened in the Panorama section.

Another key item on IDM’s agenda was the EWA – European Women’s Audiovisual Network get-together titled “TIME TO DELIVER ON GENDER EQUALITY IN THE SECTOR!”, where IDM presented its RACCONTI script lab to an expert audience. The network celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The get-together focused on topics such as the gender pay gap as well as the safety of and discrimination against women on film sets.

On Tuesday, 21 February, IDM organised their traditional Berlinale reception held at the Prince Charles Club located in the Berlin neighbourhood of Kreuzberg. About 300 guests accepted their invitations and joined IDM for an evening full of interesting conversations, delicious food, and a great atmosphere.
