RACCONTI Script Lab: Behind the Scenes

Reading time
Why take part in the IDM script lab? That is the question we asked the participants of RACCONTI #10. During our interview, they told us how the exchange with experts and other teams drives the development of a script – and how it shapes the collaboration between the writer/director and the producer.

Horror, comedy, a modern fairytale: in the tenth edition of the IDM script lab RACCONTI, three teams consisting of writers/directors and producers worked on their scripts. The feature films in question couldn’t have been any more different – which was just the basis that was needed to facilitate the multilateral exchange between the experts and other script lab participants.

Everybody agreed on one thing: RACCONTI means to engage intensely – and critically! – with one’s own project. The group sessions lent themselves to lively discussions among the participating authors; during the one-on-one sessions, international experts elaborated on the individual project requirements, thus supporting the creative process. RACCONTI is all about script development, but topics such as funding and the marketing and distribution strategies of the film projects are also discussed.

An interview with the teams and the tutors granted TAKE a look behind the scenes at RACCONTI #10. They talk about insights and teamwork, the outside perspective, and why South Tyrol/Südtirol is just the right setting for the script lab.

The next script lab will take place in 2022/23. Applications for RACCONTI #11 will remain open until 20 June.
