What are you currently working on?
I’m currently filming the series Weiss & Morales in Spain. It’s a Spanish-German coproduction in which I play the investigator Weiss.
What was your most recent project?
A German film that will be released in cinemas this autumn. That’s all I can say about it for now…
Which of your projects to date are you particularly proud of?
The bed I made myself.
How did you first get into the film industry?
My film career got off to a shaky start. A friend and I filmed an experimental short film on an analogue camera.
Who would you love to work/shoot with?
With the director Alice Rohrwacher. I love her modern, dark fairy tales.
What would you be doing if you hadn’t ended up working in the film industry?
I’d be in the maths building at TU Berlin.
What role would you love to play?
A fantasy figure with a non-human body.
Who or what inspires you?
Music and coincidences.
What does creativity mean to you?
Productivity with an element of surprise.
Your dream location is...
My kitchen.
What’s your favourite film?
I don’t personally have “favourites”. But two films that I always recommend to others and that I often think about because they moved me so much are Cinema Paradiso and The Tribe.
What’s your favourite series?
I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the series I May Destroy You. One of the themes it deals with is sexual assault and its use of humour is ingenious.
What’s your guilty pleasure (film/series)?
Charmed. I’ve loved it since I was a child.
What film shaped your childhood?
Chicken Run!
When did you last cry in the cinema?
When I saw the film Aftersun.
Cinema or streaming?
Cinema. With proper armchairs and people who you can laugh and/or cry with.
Protagonist or antagonist?
You can’t have one without the other.
After graduating from TU Berlin with a degree in mathematics, Trento-born actress Katia Fellin went on to study drama at the Rostock University of Music and Drama, also spending time at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. She made various theatre appearances during this period, including as a member of the ensemble at the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin in 2018/19. She then became a freelance actress and took her first major steps in front of the camera. She has since featured in numerous German and Italian productions, including Pagan Peak (2022), Die Wespe (2022) and Alice (2022), and in the feature film I Am the Abyss (2022). She is currently starring in the series Push (2023) on ZDFneo and is filming the Spanish-German series Weiss & Morales (2024), in which she plays co-lead character and investigator Nina Weiss.
