The local police inspector Erlacher starts investigations, which lead him to Matteo Troier, winemaker of the year. He lives on a vineyard but his dark past threatens to catch up with him. Nino Sorrentino, son of a Mafia boss, blackmails Matteo and forces him to forge expensive wines. Meanwhile, the district attorney is investigating into human trafficking and smuggling gangs. Only Erlacher sees a connection between the refugees and the adulterated wine. When he vanishes, district attorney Christina Melauer gets closer to Nino and Matteo. Matteo is under enormous pressure from the district attorney and has no other choice but to become the one he never wanted to be: "Il Pastore.
