Karl der Große

Karl der Große

Gabriele Wengler, 2012
Synopsis

With “Charlemagne” an imperial figure comes to life which, as the “Father of Europe”, has created an empire whose influence reaches even into the present. The things that were fought for and invented, thought about and believed in during the reign of Charlemagne profoundly affect European society and culture up until today. Yet everything we know about the life of Charlemagne is based on the writings of his court reporters that were to glorify the emperor. It is only new approaches to research and modern forensic methods which reveal details about the Frankish king that revolutionizes the view generations have had. It reveals the dark side of the monarch whose successes are founded on uncompromising brutality and political intrigues.
