Marble quarry - Lasamarmo
Description
The marble quarrying activity at Acqua Bianca began in 1883. In the 20th century the quarrying activity was shifted up to the mountains, because the marble available in the open spaces was insufficient, and falling rocks and avalanches made it difficult to quarry what little there was. Over the years, the terracing system used to extract blocks of marble from the inside of the mountain has created a network of tunnels that branch off, with marble galleries up to 40 metres high. This scenario changes constantly as a result of the powerful technical equipment and the alluring effects created by the light.
