City of Glurns (Glorenza)
Glurns is located 83 km away from Bolzano and about 25 km from Reschen Pass. With a total area of just 13 km², it is the smallest city in Alto Adige and the second smallest in the whole Alpine region. Glurns’ trademark is the one-of-a-kind mountain landscape surrounding the city, framing it with perfectly preserved Medieval walls that mark the border between the city center and outskirts. The city walls’ three stately Renaissance towers make the scene absolutely inimitable. Access to the center is provided via three gateways, and the narrow Medieval streets with two intersecting porticos are also very picturesque, adding to Glurns’ fascinating atmosphere. The low-rise, Medieval porticos are very old, dating back to 1304, but have been carefully restored to preserve their distinct original appeal.
