Synopsis

On a small mountain farm in South Tyrol, live Marianne and Rudl, who are by now of old age. Their only son Albert hab been sent to live his life in the village nearby a long time ago to support the family financially. When Rudl dies, it heraids the assumed end of the farm in a tragic way. But Marianne conceals the death of her husband not only to be able to stay on the farm, but also to die there - and to protect her son from this insociable life. A bizarre masquerade begins. She copes well with the hard work on the farm by herself, while Albert tries to find social connection in the valley without much effect. Only when Mariannes power is fading and Albert looses his heart to a Hungarian cook at his workplace, a change approaches in the vulnerable mother-son-relationship. Finally Marianne confesses the death of Rudl to Albert. He finds the farm in a dilalidated condition. Without hesitating, Albert takes over the place of his father. And three days of work, to decide about his future.
