Prettau Mine
The show mine at Prettau is located in the rear Aurina (Ahrntal) Valley, just before valley head. In the 1990s, St. Ignatius Tunnel was developed into a show mine. The old mine train was restored, and visitors can now ride on two-man crew wagons. The old winch from the 1960s is located near the pit railway station, in a slightly larger cavity. The winch was used to hoist the conveyor cages out of the Archduke Johann Shaft, which runs at a depth of almost 90 meters to the ore deposit located beneath the St. Ignatius Tunnel. Today half of the shaft is submerged under water.
