Monticolo Castle
Beautiful little castle from the medieval revival period characterized by quarry stone masonry, ogival windows, stair gables, bay turrets, spoon-shape holes as light sources. Built between 1886 and 1888 by Josef von Zastrow from Prussia, it was acquired, along with its lakes, by the municipality of Eppan in 1902. The castle, previously formerly owned by the counts Wolkenstein-Trostburg, was the residence of the Eppan painter Max Sparer (1886-1968).
