Healing images

Healing images

Andrea Deaglio
Synopsis

Healing Images is the intimate and professional journal of Eva Pattis Zoja, a psychotherapist specializing in emergen-cies. Eva has developed a method: Expressive Sandwork. There is no talking. You choose thumbnails and put them in a small sand theater. This is where the inner images come to life. Eva applies this method wherever there is an emergency; she works with Ukrainian refugees, with Yazidis who survived the Isis genocide, with victims of Covid-19 pandemic trau-ma. It is with the images born in the sand that the healing process can begin. Eva's mother, Therese, left her a box that to this day she has never opened. Among the diaries, postcards, and photographs Eva is searching for an image, the one that hides the motivation for her life's choices: to heal the traumas of others for not having been able to heal her moth-er's. Trauma is never merely an individual matter; it is transmitted between generations is and is reflected into history.
