The 75th Berlin International Film Festival (13 to 23 February 2025) once again served as an important platform for the international film industry. Between opening day and 19 February, the IDM Film Commission Südtirol attended pivotal industry events and also celebrated the international premiere of the IDM-funded film The Ice Tower that received the Silver Bear.
Once again, the IDM Film Commission Südtirol formed part of the Visitors Programme of the Berlinale Co-Production Market and the talent development programme “Berlinale Talents” presenting the South Tyrolean Film Fund and Commission.
A delegation of film professionals from South Tyrol/Südtirol also participated in the Visitors Programme: Petra Tartarotti (Albolina Film), Maddalena Quaia (Movie.mento), and Alberto Favruzzo (Abisso Studio) attended consultation sessions and made new contacts. “My takeaway is helpful tips for future co-productions. I particularly value the meetings with industry experts and the insight into financing strategies and market mechanisms. The exchange with international producers has introduced me to some inspiring projects,” says Petra Tartarotti (Albolina Film).
One of the highlights was the IDM reception on 18 February, attended by both South Tyrolean and international film professionals. That was also where the eleven local talents were introduced: this year, the IDM Film Commission sought to spotlight the work of local filmmakers working behind the camera in South Tyrol’s film industry.
And to round it off, the MASO short film training programme was presented at the World Cinema Fund happy-hour cocktail get-together on 19 February.
16 February saw the international premiere of the IDM-funded film The Ice Tower by Lucile Hadžihalilović as a contender in the Competition. The film was shot over the course of eight days in Kaltern/Caldaro, Margreid/Magrè, Bolzano/Bozen, and Meran/Merano. Many local film professionals were involved in its making, with Bolzano-based Albolina Film acting as service producer. The Ice Tower received the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution on 22 February. Congratulations to the entire team.
